The Last Season

Dreaming about Bonaire whilst expensive kitchens are being installed and the atmosphere of a Latin-American ‘tella novella’. No gossip is left unspoken in this small paradise near the beach of Hoek van Holland.

Where back in the day British rock stars would set foot after travelling for hours over the sea, it looks like there is nothing left of that glamour from the olden days. Harmen went searching for inhabitants of “de Hoek” whom still embody this timeless allure. His search led him to the holiday resort right next to the beach. Every year a few hundred Dutch people come together to celebrate the summer months. This campsite with more than two hundred permanent pitches, therefore, becomes a crowded small village at the peak of the season.

When most inhabitants have left the campsite and are preparing for fall, there still are a few left
at the end of the season celebrating life. One exceptional warm weekend at the end of the season, the camp-site became the backdrop for Harmen his newest series. Harmen got inspired by the people who are living in the trailers and mobile homes and he captured these characters in a photo series in which everything looks more colourful than reality. Harmen pays tribute to the eternal holiday feeling with a nod to the rock stars that have ever set foot on this land.
